Man faces drug charge after 24 stricken at Ohio music fest
– In Ohio, officials say 24 people were sent to the hospital after eating candy laced with an unknown substance at a music festival. The festival, called “The Last Weekend on Earth” is one bad trip after another when people started having bad reactions to candy laced with THC, which was passed around since 11AM.
Joe Masi told reporters that someone began tossing bags of the colorful candy into the crowd Saturday morning.
According to the police report of the incident, “A green protective case was found and it contained a glass device for the use of smoking marijuana and or hash oil” in his backpack.
The overdose victims Saturday were attending the EST FEST Music Festival in Butler, Zehner said. Event organizers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office was holding 28-year-old Matthew Lee Gross, of Ypsilanti, in jail Sunday.
“What likely happened is whoever passed these out did not give the people any instructions”, he added. They only felt exhausted, among other unusual symptoms.
Police said the concertgoers were given packets of candy labeled “Prescribed Medibles” and “Nerd Bites”.
Paramedics initially believed the overdoses were caused by opiates but when victims did not respond to the Narcan they had the sweets tested and they came back positive for a high dosage of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, WEWS reported.
The festival, headlined by Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly, was set to continue through the weekend.
