Man fatally shot at Hoover apartment; child possibly pulled trigger

WIAT A police officer investigates the scene where a two-year-old boy apparently shot his father in the head and killed him on Tuesday afternoon in the Birmingham, Ala. suburb of Hoover.

The married man, who has not yet been identified, was initially discovered by a family member when she arrived home at The Cliffs at Rocky Ridge apartments.

Capt. Gregg Rector with the Hoover Police Dept. says,”That also does not appear likely at this point but it’s really too early for us to rule that out”.

Rector said this evening that detectives and crime scene technicians have examined the scene, collected evidence and interviewed several individuals.

Detectives believe the man’s son may have accidentally fired the gun at his father, reports the New York Daily News.

The toddler and his father were possibly the only two people home when the incident occurred.

But police say the investigation is still in its early stages and they are not ruling out other possibilities.

Police said they would release the victim’s identity and further details on Wednesday.
