Man Found Dead In Front Of Studio City Bank After Shots Fired
It is unclear if the man seen in this photo shared by Dan via Twitter is the man now reported dead after being shot by LAPD.
Witness Paul Gilmartin told the Los Angeles Times he was at a Peet’s Coffee & Tea on Ventura when he heard several shots fired. An officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was hit, police said.
There is an uncovered body in or near a flower pot in front of two banks – one a Union Bank and the other a Chase branch – on Ventura Boulevard.
Reports of a man with a gun opening fire in Studio City on Friday afternoon prompted a massive Los Angeles Police Department response and closed both Ventura and Laurel Canyon boulevards. A bomb squad responded to the scene with a robot that was used to inspect at least one package seen near the suspect’s body.
Carmona said it did not appear there had been a bank robbery, as initial reports had indicated.
A SWAT team also swept the area, and people were told to remain inside nearby businesses.
Around 4:25 p.m., the LAPD deployed a bomb squad robot to check and eventually detonate two suspicious items the man had on him. Drivers traveling east on Ventura from Beverly Glen Boulevard should take a left and head north on Whitsett Avenue to circumvent the closure.
