Man found dead in Williamsburg elevator
A man was killed after falling down an elevator shaft in Williamsburg early Friday, according to the NYPD.
Officials are investigating after a 37-year-old man was found dead in a Brooklyn building, wedged between an elevator and the floor.
Police say Modan was visiting a friend at the apartment building.
The victim was with a group of people in the elevator of an upscale building located at 156 Hope St.in Williamsburg shortly before 4:30 a.m. when it suddenly dropped almost three feet, 1010 WINS’ Roger Stern reported.
“They told me that the elevator moved with the doors open, that’s what they told me”, P&W Elevator supervisor George Herlang said.
Investigators say the victim, who sources identify as Eran Modan, 37, was inside the elevator with other people when it began to jerk while in motion.
However, witnesses claim the elevator simply dropped while Moran was inside it.
“Only elevator will only go up and only opens half way. When it shot straight up it took his body with him”.
When emergency responders arrived, the man was already dead, with signs of trauma to his head and torso, according to police.
Residents of the six-story building were stunned and said this could have happened to anybody.
The Brooklyn company is in charge of maintaining the elevator. The man then became pinned between the elevator and the shaft, she said.
A man has been crushed to death in a horrific lift accident at a luxury apartment complex. The investigation is still ongoing.
The elevator has been the subject of four violations, all of which have been resolved, according to documents seen by Pix 11.
