Man hit with own car in Hemet road-rage incident
If anyone has any information regarding the road rage confrontation, they are asked to contact the Hemet Police Department.
Authorities have now released a graphic video of the incident, in which Leavitt is seen arguing with a man outside a white pickup truck before his own auto rushes by and hits him at 30mph.
Strangely, in the course of the initial road rage that started this fight, one of the guys fighting with Leavitt stole his auto.
Officers responded to a report of a verbal disturbance in the 1400 block of S. Gilbert Street on Friday at approximately 6:56 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 53-year-old man “lying in the street, unable to move, suffering from injuries consistent with being hit by a auto”, police said. The man who was arguing with the victim hopped in his vehicle after yelling “Yeah”, and waited on his partner who had stolen Leavitt’s auto to run him down.
After Leavitt was hit with his own vehicle during a road rage confrontation, his family and friends set up a Go Fund Me page.
“I can’t understand it”, said Leavitt’s wife Sabine. He was brought to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while his vehicle was found abandoned at the scene.
Both suspects fled in a white 2006 to 2011 body style, standard cab Ford Ranger pick-up truck.
“I can not understand why they would want to do that”.
Leavitt’s family has since created a GoFundMe page to help afford his mounting medical bills.
His wife Sabine told KTLA that he is recovering and has had hip replacement and knee replacement surgeries.
The driver of the pickup was described as 18-25 years old, about 5 foot 10 inches tall, thin, with brown hair, wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a black baseball cap.
Police in Hemet, California released the video on Monday, which shows the grandfather being thrown in the air after the collision.
