Man mows down Memorial Day crosses with vehicle
Residents of a Kentucky county are rallying and working frantically to fix and replace a Memorial Day cross display that was damaged by a driver accused of plowing through the crosses.
Anthony Burrus is in jail after Kentucky police say he plowed through a Memorial Day cross display.
He has been charged with first-degree criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident.
More than 5,000 crosses are included in the display, according to the Gleaner, a local newspaper.
Police say at least 160 crosses were damaged; volunteers have been able to put around 142 back up, but the crosses need repairs.
Richmond stated, to disrespect the memory of those who had served their country was just totally unacceptable.
Tips on Facebook also helped them track down Anthony Burrus, 27.
The Memorial Day ceremony at Central Park will go on as scheduled – at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 30th.
According to Fox 13, some of the Memorial Day crosses were embedded in the tires of his vehicle, said Richmond.
According to police, an estimated 160 crosses – each worth about $100 – were damaged in the incident. He is now being held at Henderson County Detention Center, in lieu of $2,500 bond. “But the evidence is in his vehicle tires”.
