Man Plants An amazing 4-Mile Sunflower Garden To Honor His Late Wife
“That’s what she did with her life”, White said.
Don Jaquish planted the flowers in honour of his late wife, Babbette The flowers will now produce seeds which will be sold to raise money for other cancer patients The sunflower patch stretches over five farms which neighbours agreed to give Mr Jaquish access to in exchange for whatever rent he deemed fair because “they all loved her”.
Wisconsin State Road 85 has always been a pretty drive, but never has it shined like now.
Don got to work planting the seeds, and neighbors even opened up their fields for free to support the cause. It was the second marriage for both of them.
“Everyone that ever met Babbette fell in love with her”, Jaquish recalled. “I was lucky enough to be the guy she fell in love with”.
“They were very much in love with each other”.
‘I couldn’t fathom, until I actually saw it how beautiful it is, ‘ Jenny White, one of Babbette’s daughters and Jacquish’s stepdaughters, told KARE.
After Babbette was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2006, the Jaquishes planted several hundred acres of sunflowers around their property. ABC News says that Babbette “had the idea of raising sunflowers and selling sunflower seeds in part to benefit cancer research”, which is how the official name Babbette’s Seeds of Hope came to be.
Babbette had 22 different cancer treatments through the years, many of which were through clinical trials, Jaquish said. “She realized the importance of research in clinical trials”.
The kind of woman who would leave her husband with a letter, discovered in a folder four months to the day after her death.
He continues to hold her words close to his heart.
Babbette’s face will feature on the packets which will be labelled “Babbette’s Seeds Of Hope”. “I think she would be smiling”, Don said.
