Man shoots security guard, self at federal building
Gunfire broke out on Friday at a federal building in New York’s Lower Manhattan neighborhood, police said.
He walked up to the security checkpoint and shot the guard in the head for no apparent reason, sources said. The man then shot himself in the head.
Police arrive at the scene after reports of the afternoon shooting.
The 53-year-old security officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital where has reportedly died.
One of the people who was shot was a security officer at the building, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unnamed law-enforcement official.
The building houses an immigration court, an immigration office, a post office, a passport office, and more.
The shooter pulled a firearm out of a bag and shot an armed private security guard, a police spokeswoman told AFP.
At a news conference, New York police said only the shooter was dead.
O’Neill says there is “no indication of a nexus to terrorism”.
