Man shot by police after attack on family in Fairfield
Police said the man refused to drop the weapons and they were forced to shoot him.
The deadly encounter happened on Mountain Laurel Road about 5:30 or 6 a.m., Chief Gary MacNamara said. A man was fatally shot during what police describe as a violent domestic confrontation.
One man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Fairfield Tuesday morning.
The officer discharged their firearm, killing the person.
Several police cars were seen outside the home.
The man’s wife and their children were in the home at the time of the shooting; authorities say they had sustained injuries ranging from cuts to blunt force trauma.
“With regards to weapons involved, there were some slice wounds, some stab wounds on the victims”.
The woman was transported to a hospital. Macnamara says the officer was also taken to the the hospital for treatment. The officer has been with the department for 10 years.
Mountain Laurel Road is closed and traffic is being diverted onto Brookside Drive.
State police were called in to investigate the shooting.
Police have not released the names of anyone involved because they are notifying family.
