Phil Jones believes Manchester United will challenge for trophies next season following a busy summer of transfer activity at Old Trafford.
United launched their new package for the upcoming marketing campaign on Saturday, and on the launch in Manchester he hailed the acquisitions of the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian.
Some big names have been linked and United are going to need someone to put the ballw in the back of the net over 20-25 times this season if Louis van Gaal is going to be lifting any silverware come May 2016. “They’ve all got their own attributes”, player who can change a game and score goals.
Schweinsteiger made the move to the Premier League in July, after United secured a £14.4million deal to sign the Germany worldwide from Bayern Munich.
“Darmian is a terrific right-back, he’s quick and he’s sharp and we’ve seen that in pre-season”.
“He brings a wealth of experience and is an excellent addition to our squad”.
And Jones is hopeful of not only challenging for the title, but expects the new signings to help bolster their chances of making progress in Europe. “Hopefully we’ll win some trophies”.
“We are very confident”, he said.
“I think this team has a lot of possibilities and quality”.
“We have a good defence, we have good defensive players, and we have quality players who can make the difference in high-level matches. I think a club like Manchester United always has to play for prizes on the pitch”.
