Man United have bid for one of Southampton’s key men
The Red Devils had looked odds on the secure the services of Barcelona forward Pedro before the end of the window, however, the Spaniard is instead on the verge of joining Chelsea.
But according to the Telegraph, United are already looking to bounce back from that disappointment, and have a made a shock enquiry for Southampton winger Sadio Mane.
Sources at United confirmed the bid was lodged last week, with Louis van Gaal desperate to add more firepower to his attack.
Pedro has scored 58 goals in 240 top-flight appearances for the Catalan side.
The Senegal worldwide bagged 10 in total for the Saints last season from out wide and clearly he’s needed because United only now have Young, Depay, Mata, Valencia and Januzaj to fill those slots.
It’s unclear where the bid now stands but Southampton are known to be unwilling to sell Mane.
Mane certainly has talent but United fans may be concerned that he is yet to prove himself at the highest level.
In that case, Mané will be holding his brand new United scarf above his head at Old Trafford within the fortnight.
Mane only arrived in England on transfer deadline day last summer – a £10m buy from Red Bull Salzburg.
The forward plundered the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history in Southampton’s 6-1 win over Aston Villa in May, and United have now made their move for him.
