And late on Sunday night it was reported the 25-year-old Schneiderlin was also having a medical at United’s Carrington training headquarters.

The French global also thanked his former club Southampton for aiding his growth as player.

Schweinsteiger worked with Van Gaal during the Dutchman’s time in charge of Bayern Munich, but he insisted his moved to make to Old Trafford was not just because of the familiar face in charge.
