Man Utd hold talks with Mourinho over succeeding Van Gaal
United have remained quiet over suggestions that they will not allow Louis van Gaal to see out his tenure at Old Trafford, which finishes at the end of next season.
“The club is still open to the possibility of Mourinho managing at Old Trafford, despite opposition from influential members”, the report adds, before detailing United’s cosy relationship with Mourinho’s agent.
“Now we are playing with that freedom and we’ve got a lot of energy in the team and to be mixing up the positions and entertain the crowd we’ll have to do that”, Lingard told British media.
“I have the feeling that if we beat Chelsea – and that’s hard, since Hiddink is there, they don’t lose any more – then our league is starting again, so that’s very important”.
His team lie fifth in the Premier League, and are ten points behind leaders Leicester.
The Spaniard has started centrally in United’s past two games, helping Van Gaal’s men to wins over Stoke City and Derby County.
Louis van Gaal insists increased confidence and not a change in tactics are behind an upturn in form for Manchester United.
‘I’m not agreeing with the remark of Wayne Rooney because it is only that we have more confidence, ‘ said the United boss.
“Michael Carrick said to me and I have the same feeling, the competition is not yet finished, not for Manchester United or the other teams”.
Jose Mourinho is on the brink of getting the job of his dreams by becoming Manchester United manager this summer.
But, despite being pleased with these results and hoping they promise more, Van Gaal is wary of saying all the problems are over and his players have finally grasped his style. “It’s not that he can train with us but, still, he is doing well”.
The Daily Star have claimed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already made a decision to sack Van Gaal at the end of the campaign and the latest reports of discussions with Mourinho seem to corroborate that story.
“I have signed a three-year contract and I have said in all my press conferences that it’s a process, not one game”, Van Gaal said in December.
