Man Utd’s Neymar talks, Liverpool striker exit, Chelsea’s — Transfer News
Manchester United’s Victor Valdes has reportedly emerged as a surprise target for Chelsea, as the Blues look to bolster their goalkeeping ranks with No. 1 Thibaut Courtois a long-term injury absentee.
Jose Mourinho has insisted Chelsea have not been considering possible loan signings in case Asmir Begovic becomes unavailable. 21-year-old Jamal Blackman is presently Begovic’s understudy, having made only one senior appearance thus far with the Blues. However, he has since seen Courtois sent off in Chelsea’s Premier League opener and was then hit with the news that the Belgian would be ruled out until at least mid-December with a knee injury (via the Daily Mirror). Juan Pablo Carrizo from Inter Milan, Miguel Angel Moya at Atletico Madrid and Porto keeper Helton have all been shortlisted should a move for Valdes break down owing to differences between the two clubs.
The aforementioned source reports that Valdes is on a long list of contingency plans if Mourinho does decide to snap up a goalkeeper in the winter.
The former Barcelona star has fallen out with United boss Louis van Gaal and came close to leaving Old Trafford before the closure of the summer transfer window.
However, it seems highly unlikely that the Red Devils would be open to moving Valdes on to a Premier League rival, even though David De Gea and Sergio Romero are now above him in the pecking order.
But asked about the possibility at a press conference this afternoon, Mourinho was clear that he is not about to ask the Premier League to grant his side an emergency loan deal to sign Valdes.
