Man Utd”s Rooney huge doubt for England through injury
Wayne Rooney’s probable absence for Friday’s qualifier-turned-dead-rubber with Estonia could present a window of opportunity that Walcott knows he must jump through.
Wayne Rooney is set to be honored by England at the Wembley Stadium for becoming the country’s all-time leading goal scorer but the Manchester United captain could then miss the clash against Estonia.
“It clicked about going up front when Arsene told me he wanted me to be more aggressive on the pitch”, Walcott added.
Asked whether he thought understudy Jack Butland should be given a start, Hart said: “I am a very team-driven man, so if that is Roy [Hodgson]’s thinking, that is the way we are going to do it. But I personally want to play every single game”.
The 26-year-old has mainly played on the right wing for England, but has netted four times in nine appearances for Arsenal this season.
Hopefully we can get 10 from 10, which no other European country has done. Harry Kane would have been an obvious choice to lead the lines at Wembley following his recent exploits with the national team. “I think everyone plays through something. That’s where I want to be and now I want to bring my Arsenal form into England”.
The Manchester City star has been involved in World Cups in South Africa and Brazil as well as Euro 2012 and on each occasion the Three Lions have not gone close to winning.
“Yes I had a problem earlier in the week [before Spurs]”, Hart said.
“It’s always good to give players a chance when they’re at the top of their form and I’ve never felt better”.
“I’ve had quite a few words with him behind the scenes”.
“I definitely feel there is a great deal of belief in the squad”.
England skipper Rooney is described as a major doubt after missing his second training session since the squad linked up at St George’s Park on Tuesday, while Liverpool striker Ings was also absent yesterday.
It will be a cause for concern for Louis van Gaal, who is tasked with motivating his players following a disappointing loss at the hands of Arsenal, and will hope to have his captain back for their clash against Everton on 17 October, just after the ongoing global break.
