Man Utd urged to sack Louis van Gaal and appoint Ryan Giggs
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has labelled speculation over Louis van Gaal’s future as “disrespectful” to the Dutchman – having failed to back Jose Mourinho five days ago.
It’s suggested these “clear-the-air” discussions will see all at the club seek to pull together in an attempt to try to turn the campaign around, with Van Gaal reportedly now willing for there to be more communication between the players and the coaching staff.
Mourinho’s name was chanted by United fans at Old Trafford during the loss to Norwich and he has already confirmed that he has no desire to take a break after leaving Stamford Bridge last Thursday.
United manager Van Gaal is under heavy pressure at Old Trafford after a sequence of poor results and an even longer spell of uninspiring performances.
However, the Red Devils are still fifth in the Premier League standings and very much in the mix to finish in the top four.
John Cross and David Maddock of the Daily Mirror wrote the club captain demanded the discussions.
And while publicly United’s players have insisted van Gaal retains their support, as with Mourinho’s sacking last week, the truth is somewhat different.
Van Gaal, who worked with Mourinho at Barcelona, is expected to receive questions on the Portuguese and his own job security at his weekly press conference in Carrington at 1530 today.
That amounts to half of what he was making at Chelsea, where his £12 million a year made him the most highly compensated manager in the Premier League.
Neville added: “I was at United as a player for nine years and it wasn’t pretty every week”.
Louis van Gaal is under tremendous after his team lost three matches in a row in all competitions and they were also knocked out of Champions League.
United is set to travel to Stoke on Boxing Day before hosting the current league champions Chelsea on Dec 28.
“I just think it’s disgraceful and disrespectful to managers when they’re still in a job and other managers are being talked about for their job [in reference to the Jose Mourinho rumours]”.
FC’s Gab Marcotti feels the media may be sensationalising Louis van Gaal’s chances of being sacked.
