Man wearing Darth Vader mask arrested after attempted armed robbery
An armed would-be robber dressed as Darth Vader was arrested shortly after an altercation with a convenience store clerk in Jacksonville Beach, Florida on Sunday night, according to WJXT.
Ricardo said Vader had on the full outfit – mask and even the electronic box thing on the chest that looked like a tiny ATM.
A store employee says he threw a wine bottle at the suspect, who wearing a Darth Vader costume.
That, at least, is the allegation confronting Jacob Mercer, 32, after he was detained by police in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, when surveillance captured an attempted hold-up. That is when he grabbed a jar of blue cheese dressing and hurled it at the culprit, hitting his helmet.
“He ran to his vehicle sped off driving recklessly through a stop sign and took a right onto first Street, I lost him from there”. The suspect then left the store.
Authorities said a search of Mercer’s home revealed several handguns and ammunition.
He was subsequently detained and later positively identified by the witness as the man seen in the silver auto, according to the report.
After receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital, Mercer was transported to the local police station where witnesses ID’d him.
However, police managed to retrieve the silver vehicle with NY plates, pertaining to the suspect, on South Fifth Street.
