Man who bought guns used in shootings was related to gunman
FBI Director Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday that in 2013, even before the rise of the Islamic State, Malik and Farook were communicating with one another online.
The committee’s chairman, Republican Senator Charles Grassley, said the San Bernardino shootings had shown President Barack Obama to be “spectacularly wrong” about the security of the U.S. visa screening process since Malik arrived in the United States on a K-1 fiancee visa on which he said she listed a false address.

Investigators are still trying to piece together profiles of the couple, who killed 14 people and died in a gun battle with police at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino last week.
The government is already facing scrutiny for allowing Malik into the USA on a fiance visa past year. He also declined to specify what the divers were looking for. The search is related to the investigation into the massacre, according to a law enforcement official who was briefed on the investigation but was not authorized to speak publicly. Comey went so far as to say that the terrorist couple had extremist views before ever meeting online.
“We only interview people in the K1 visa program in cases where there is some issue that needs to be explored as part of the case”, Rodriguez said in response to a question from Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who chairs the House subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.
The Software and Information Industry Association, though, said such a government demand carries its own dangers.
“ISIL inspiration may well have been part of this, but these two killers were staring to radicalize towards martyrdom and jihad as early as 2013.
Kabir lived in Riverside, which is near San Bernardino.
“These people weren’t on the radar”, he added.
Marquez told authorities Tuesday that he and Farook had planned the earlier attack but “got spooked” because of other terrorism arrests in the area, Fox News reports.
Things started out well for Marquez at the firm, according to the man who hired him, and after two months he was put in charge of the work schedule for about 15 other guards.
But they have also returned, again and again, to a much closer source of clues: The house next door to the boyhood home of killer Syed Rizwan Farook. Another federal law enforcement source said Marquez and Farook had plotted some sort of attack around 2012 but abandoned it.
You can listen to James Comey’s speech to the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the radicalization of Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik below. He and Farook were friends for years and became family last year, with a sister-in-law in common.
Hasan said Marquez attended sermons by himself but stopped coming about two years ago.
Feinstein said the information can help stop terrorist recruitment or an attack and “we need help from technology companies”.
“I don’t know how this happened….” That woman, from Russian Federation, has a sister who married Marquez past year.
The ceremony took place at the Islamic Society of Corona-Norco, according to the marriage license, though the mosque’s facility manager denied it occurred there.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) told Comey she was “appalled” to see media rifling through the shooters’ apartment after the San Bernardino attack.
FBI Director James Comey has said Malik and Farook declared at about the time of their attack that they were acting on behalf of Islamic State, which in turn has embraced the couple as among its followers.
The father of California shooter Tashfeen Malik says he condemns and regrets his daughter’s action and the killings in San Bernardino.
