Man who loaned gun to Boston Marathon bomber to be sentenced
Stephen (STEF’-ihn) Silva is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court.
A Ruger pistol, that was shown during the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev federal death penalty trial, is displayed at a conference room at the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse in Boston, Tuesday, March 17, 2015.
Silva is the last of five people associated with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to face criminal charges related to the bombing. Silva had been imprisoned since July 2014.
“I’d definitely like to give my deepest condolences to the Collier family”, Silva said.
However, prosecutors and the judge said Silva cooperated with authorities and helped convict Tsarnaev during his federal prosecution.
Silva and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were friends when they attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School together in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
‘The marathon bombing trial team has advised that Silva was an important and credible witness at trial.
“You were at a crossroads and you certainly went in the wrong way”, Wolf said.
The Boston Marathon bombings took place on April 15, 2013 before the Tsarnaev brothers killed a police officer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 18.
‘The Ruger was then used to kill a police officer in connection with one of the worst acts of terrorism in the history of MA’.
Silva’s twin brother, Steven, erupted in applause when the sentence was read out and was escorted from the courtroom. Tsarnaev’s older brother, 26-year-old Tamerlan, died following a gunfight with police later that night.
The architect of the monument, J. Meejin Yoon, said bringing massive concrete blocks into such a massive sculpture is meant to reflect the notion of what it means to be ‘Collier Strong’.
“I would like to apologise for the crimes I committed”.
