Man with knife killed by officers in confrontation
Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man after they say he left four children alone in a home.
Investigators say the man was holding a knife.
This happened around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday at a Shell gasoline station on the corner 1st Street and Jefferson Street downtown.
According to a preliminary investigation, five Operation Trust LMPD officers stopped at the Bader’s station while on break, and three of the officers went inside the store. The officers were both dressed in plain clothes, but were wearing vests that clearly said “police” on the front and back, said Conrad.
The suspect walked past the two officers who remained outside and said something threatening.
Police said two officers were in the parking lot when Tyler Alexander Dattilo, 18, approached them and said something to them.
Seconds later LMPD said Datillo swung the knife toward the officers.
“The kids had no way of contacting their mother or father in case of an emergency situation”, police say, adding that officers, “feared for the safety of the kids, and their health”, given their ages. LMPD is expected to release video of the incident and the names of the officers involved in the fatal shooting Thursday.
