But as the U.S. press published story after story of a campaign in crisis, of staff tearing their hair out with their boss’s seeming inability to stay on message, Trump batted aside suggestions that he should change tack. Trump issued a statement on Manafort’s resignation in which he said he was “very appreciative for his great work in helping us get to where we are today”.
