Manager trying to confirm safety of band in hostage crisis
There is now a major tragedy happening in Paris tonight, where a series of attacks have led to at least 60 people dead (as CNN previously quoted BFM) and a hostage situation at Bataclan, a concert venue where the Eagles of Death Metal were performing.
Earlier Friday, management for the band said they were “trying to determine the safety and whereabouts” of the band and its crew.
The group mentioning Tuesday is likely referring to Tuesday Cross, who is in Eagles of Death Metal alongside frontman Jesse Hughes, Joshua Homme (producer, drums), David Catching (guitar), Joey Castillo (drums) and Brian O’ Conner (bass). “Our ideas are with all of the individuals concerned in this tragic state of affairs”, administration for Eagles of Death Metal posted on the band’s Facebook web page late Friday.
The band’s name, while frequently misunderstood, was initially chosen ironically as the artists – longtime friends – imagined a cross between hard-charging death rockers and the quintessential Americana band the Eagles.
In contrast with many successful musicians who try to steer clear of controversy, Homme is known for his political incorrectness that includes frequent profanity in public. There were conflicting reports on whether or not the members safely escaped the theater.
The AFP reports that more than 100 people died in the Bataclan theatre and that three attackers have been killed at the concert venue.
Homme, who also fronts another rock band, Queens of the Stone Age, is heavily tattooed and has spoken in the past of his ownership of guns. It’s their first album in seven years.
Dorio’s brother told WSB-TV that Julian is OK and was at a police station in Paris.
Their website lists about two dozen dates planned for the year, including stops in Munich, Stockholm, Rome and Barcelona.
In an interview in June with The Associated Press, the band spoke excitedly about releasing new music and heading on tour. “Right now I’m sitting in an interview with my best friend in London at Koko’s Ballroom talking about myself”.
