Manchester City’s Kompany out for weeks says Guardiola
After scoring twice to secure a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on the weekend Yaya Toure will have to sit out this match as he is not part of City’s Champions League squad.
“Fortunately nothing happened with his head”, Guardiola told a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League Group C match at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Manchester City look to face Borussia Mönchengladbach tomorrow evening without captain Vincent Kompany after he went off injured with a concussion at Crystal Palace on Saturday. It’s a ligament. Three or four weeks [out], we will see. He was unlucky to inadvertently injure his captain, but actually, he was doing the right thing, as it was his ball to claim and further proved how much stronger and more dominant he was in this match.
“We have the chance to win in order to get to the next round but I think the whole group we’re in with Celtic and Barcelona is a really unsafe group”, the City boss told a news conference.
But despite thumping Luis Enrique’s men 3-1 at the Etihad, Guardiola insists the result still counts for nothing and has not changed his mind about City’s chances of becoming kings of Europe in his first season at the helm. “He is sad and I am sad because it is a long time he doesn’t play”.
“We played well enough in a hard match, but we didn’t have too many chances and we could have perhaps done better”. It’s simple like that.
These joyous moments have been a long time coming for Toure.
The clash at Borussia-Park is Guardiola’s first competitive return to Germany since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season following his third successive Bundesliga title success.
“We are fighting since the Abu Dhabi chairman bought the club to try to make this step forward, and try to arrive there”. The hosts biggest goal threat this week will be Raffael; the Brazilian is 21/10 to score for Monchengladbach with bet365, while fellow striker Andre Hahn is 9/4.
Manchester City after 4 rounds with 7 points is in second place, and if you do not lose in this game, will issue a ticket to the playoffs.
“I knew”, Toure said, “that one day my manager would need me”. Then the people consider: “Wow, in the last 10 years this club are always there”.
Yaya has been exceptional for City over these past few years.
