Manchester City stun Chelsea
Whether or not the furore distracted the players is debatable, but clearly something is not clicking this season at Chelsea after their dominance of last season’s Premier League.
When we look over the career of Jose Mourinho specifically as the manager of Chelsea, we learn that he doesn’t experience losing very often, and certainly not getting crushed by three goals.
Kompany said: “I guess it is the advantage of having a lot of players who have had time to think a little bit on holiday and come back with more motivation than ever”.
Mourinho was already on the offensive, though, saying Chelsea’s defeat by City had been undeserved.
‘I can go in another direction and say what we all know, which is, with the result 1-0, one clear action could make it 2-0.
Anyone watching that match – outside of Mourinho, obviously – would confidently state that Manchester City looked like the far better side, as Chelsea struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities throughout and, truthfully, got lucky with a 3-0 loss.
Kompany said: “Against West Brom we thought it was a pretty flawless performance but this was another level up”. A year ago we won the title and we play with extra pressure now and we have to adapt to that.
The Blues have been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far this summer as the only additions to the first-team picture have been goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and striker Radamel Falcao, but it appears their poor start to the season has prompted a reaction from the board at Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa was visibly the most aggressive and frustrated man in the pitch and out of it, he confronted Fernandinho whose elbow inflicted on him a nasty gash on the back of his head’.
The goals scorers were Sergio Aguero Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho.
Such was Mourinhos concern after a one-sided first half at Etihad Stadium that he removed captain and central defender John Terry at halftime, in order to add pace to his backline.
“You have to be on the top of your game and of your opponent to prove yourself and get the points”. My team played with pride, honour and professionalism, but we had immediately the feeling the game was lost.
The Portuguese caused controversy last week when criticising first-team doctor Eva Carneiro for treating Eden Hazard and leaving Chelsea temporarily with nine men in the opening day draw with Swansea City and he faces another testing week.
