Manchester City vs Everton
Everton is hopeful that the Premier League’s joint-top goalscorer Romelu Lukaku, who is on fine form having scored 10 goals and assisted three more in his last 10 games, can overcome an ankle knock in order to play against Manuel Pellegrini’s side and help to provide the team’s league form with a much-needed boost.
And Everton manager Roberto Martinez says it is important for his players to forget the cup for now and focus on the league showdown.
“So I don’t think we need to look any further than that”.
“We know this is an opportunity for us but we just need to focus on what we need to do to win the Premier League and not worry about other teams and what they’re doing”.
“That way, we don’t let anything affect our thinking and purely focus on our own performance”.
Steve Wilson: “If familiarity breeds contempt then the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final will be an ill-tempered affair”.
David Silva and Yaya Toure missed the FA Cup win at Norwich but are both fit to return against Everton.
Two free-scoring teams compete against each other at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, January 13 as Everton visit Manchester City in what could turn out to be a goal-fest – stay tuned!
The home side will be double motivated: not least to attempt to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal, but to also seek revenge for a recent 2-1 loss to the Toffees in the League Cup earlier this month.
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will be fit for Wednesday’s Premier League clash against third-placed Manchester City, manager Roberto Martinez said on Tuesday.
“And it allowed us to build the squad in a different manner and allowed young players to have bigger roles quicker than we expected at the beginning. They have players in a very good moment so we must be very careful with their counter attack”.
Everton are 11th in the table with 27 points after 20 games.
