Manchester United agree Matteo Darmian deal

If the Red Devils can land Darmian as well, they will become an even bigger threat to dethrone Chelsea as the Premier League champions.

Darmian was a product of AC Milan’s youth system but struggled to break through and made just four first team appearances before joining Palermo in 2011 and then Torino within 12 months.

Darmian is being considered as an option to compete with and potentially replace Rafael da Silva at Old Trafford, although there are no suggestions the Brazilian is to be sold.

Louis van Gaal has made it clear this summer that he wanted a new right back as current defender Rafael is not in his plans.

Torino president Urbano Cairo previously revealed there have been several offers for Darmian, but was unwilling to expose who else was after the 25-year-old.

He was one of the Italians’ few success stories and faced England in the opening group game in Manaus, helping Prandelli’s men win 2-1. He has 13 caps.

There were also rumours of strong interest in Everton’s Seamus Coleman, but it seems that Van Gaal has identified Darmian as his number one man.

Darmian started out as a centre back and is used to playing out from the back. It is a position that United are desperate for extra cover in, with Antonio Valencia spending most of last season filling in. He proved himself as an emerging wing-back at the club and was included in the 2013/14 Serie A Team of the Year.

Darmain on the right and a fully-fit Luke Shaw on the left would be an exciting proposition for United fans.
