Manchester United keep clueless Louis van Gaal instead of Pep Guardiola
Louis van Gaal believes Luis Sarez and Sergio Aguero would score if they were in the Manchester United team. The clean-sheet would be encouraging for Slaven Bilic as West Ham had gone nine games without one. Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard all squandered chances for United, which was denied by a mixture of fine goalkeeping from Adrian and wayward finishing.
The full-time whistle in Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with West Ham on Saturday was greeted with a chorus of boos from the fans at Old Trafford.
But the Dutch coach said his brand of football has been the key to his success at Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AZ Alkmaar, and insisted he will stick with his much-criticised philosophy as he told fans not to urge his team to attack.
“I always gave my clubs structure, and I think structure is very important in a club, but also in a company, everywhere”. “We are in a good position in the league, but it could have been boosted today”.
He didn’t feature against Leicester City last week due to apparent tiredness and the Frenchman could now be a doubt for the make or break European clash, (per the Manchester Evening News). Yes, you have to score from those chances and we didn’t do that.
When it comes to chances created, Manchester United are seriously lagging.
Holding midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin limped off in the first half in another injury concern for United ahead of what could be a must-win game at Wolfsburg on Tuesday to advance in the Champions League. “It’s too long we don’t score otherwise we could have been first in the league”.
He admits times have changed, but remains convinced United still have what it takes to become winners again and he said: “United can score goals”.
Despite another blank for his side, Van Gaal remains confident that their luck will eventually turn in front of goal.
He added: “The reason why we have bought Schweinsteiger is that he is a player who can lead or guide a team”.
Hosts Wolfsburg only require a draw to progress past the group stage for the first time in their history, while a victory would guarantee they finish top of the group. I am looking forward to it. They will come at us more as they are at home.
Even if United were to be knocked out of the Champions League next week in Germany against Wolfsburg against a back drop of apparent growing discontent among the Reds support over style it is understood it will not shake the belief among the decision makers that Van Gaal should remain in place.
“They had a great team in 2009 when they beat us”.
