Manchester United are close to securing a £17.5m ($27m) deal with Lazio for Lucas Biglia, with Louis van Gaal looking to shore up his options in anticipation of a possible title challenge this season, reports the Sunday.

Per the Independent, French news source Le 10 Sport have claimed that Biglia has already agreed personal terms with United, with a four-year deal set to be completed prior to a final fee being agreed.
The steep price is likely to put off most of his suitors, a list that also includes Valencia and Monaco, along with Real Madrid and Manchester United.
The 29-year-old enforcer has impressed since moving to the Italian capital two years ago, helping his Stadio Olimpico side to secure a Champions League berth for this season, and Biglia is an experienced battler who can offer Louis van Gaal further strength in depth in the centre of the park.

Van Gaal has made extensive moves in the summer transfer market, bringing in the aforementioned midfielder pair Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin, as well as Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian and Sergio Romero.
“We need players with speed and creativity – (Angel) Di Maria is a player like that and now he is gone, so we need that type of player”, he said.
