Manchester United news: Ramos hint, and £70m striker bid lined up

United coach Van Gaal has worked with the 25-year-old forward during his stint at Bayern Munich, and was eying to include Muller in his scheme of things at Old Trafford.

Manchester United face the prospect of going into the new season with Wayne Rooney as their main striker, backed up by James Wilson and Javier Hernandez – as their efforts to land a big money signing keep getting dashed in Germany.

Thomas Muller created 40 chances during the 2014/15 campaign, only Mario Gotze (45) and Arjen Robben (50) created more than him.

Out of all the strikers linked with United this summer including Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, Robert Lewandowski and others, nobody is better suited to the team Louis van Gaal is building than Muller.

Louis van Gaal’s side are hopeful an offer of £55.7m would be sufficient to tempt Bayern Munich into selling (via the Guardian).

However, Manchester Evening News is rubbishing the rumours, saying that no bid has been made and that no contract offer has been made for the player.

The versatile attacker who can also slot in as an attacking midfielder, scored 13 and dished out 10 assists last season.

While they are yet to make a bid, the Red Devils remain hopeful that they will be able to strike a deal with the Bavarian giants.

If United were to become successful in capturing Muller, it would see him joining fellow Germany worldwide and former Bayern Munich teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, who moved to Old Trafford this month.
