Manchester United’s Di Maria completes PSG switch
Di Maria, who was part of Real Madrid’s 2013-2013 roster that won the European Cup, completed a move with PSG after a lackluster season at the helm of United boss Louis Van Gaal.
“I want to give special thanks to all the Directors and Management of Manchester United as well as to every member of the staff and colleagues as they gave me all their support”.
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the signing of Angel Di Maria until June 30, 2019”, read a club statement.
According to the Parisian club’s official Twitter account, Argentine star Di Maria signed the deal that keeps him at the Parc des Princes until 2019. He signed with United last summer from Spaniard giant Real Madrid, making him the highest paid player at the time.
He then joined Manchester United at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, for a British transfer record fee of €75 million, but he will now likely go down as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, transfer flops in Premier League history.
Di Maria is expected to play on the left wing, which would send Cavani to the right flank with Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing as a lone striker.
After coming to Manchester United last season for $99 million, Angel Di Maria scored just four goals in 32 appearances for the Red Devils. “With best regards, Angel di Maria”.
Summer signing Memphis Depay is a strong candidate to take the jersey given that he wore it during his time at PSV Eindhoven. The athlete struggled to make a mark in the United camp due to a run of injuries during his stay at Old Trafford and ultimately lost his place in the team to Ashley Young.
Meanwhile, di Maria apologised to Manchester United fans for his underwhelming stint at Old Trafford but insisted it was not due to a lack of effort.
“I want more attackers with speed and creativity”.
And Van Gaal said it is always a risk to bring in another player from a different league and a different country. “To win the six competitions (we are in), we need the best players and Pedro is one of them”.
