Manchester United sell Angel Di Maria to PSG for €63m
As he prepares to make his exit from United, we can now come to the conclusion that he never wanted to be in Manchester from day one. The Dutchman is interested in Barcelona forward Pedro, who was frustrated by his lack of game time at the Nou Camp last season.
Angel Di Maria is all set for his medical for Paris-Saint Germain in the next 24 hours, bringing an end to the endless speculation surrounding the player all this transfer season for a sum of £46m, according to BBC.
Express.co.uk reports that with a Di Maria deal in place with the French club, United are now looking to sign Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez to replace the Argentine. I played with him at Benfica.
“United have gone away from what they were about; they are a bit like the late 80s, buying a lot of players thinking they will gel but it doesn’t happen that quickly, as much as they’ll definitely be stronger this year”, Keane told the Sunday World.
With his hefty price tag and reputation, Di Maria was under pressure to perform during what was always going to be transitional season at Manchester United. The 20-year-old played in 16 Premier League games last season – 12 as a starter – but he is behind the likes of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Daley Blind and Chris Smalling in the pecking order for a central defensive position. With the pace of Lucas Moura and Di Maria, PSG will terrorise opponents with renewed vigour on the flanks.
It is also understood that Manchester United have fined both Rojo and Di Maria for not rejoining the squad in the United States.
However, with Moura in the side as opposed to Pedro or Gaitan, Van Gaal’s men have the quality to break and with the 22-year-old’s scintillating pace, it could prove to be an extremely shrewd move by the Dutch tactician.
Ramos had recently been given a five-year contract extension by Los Blancos worth €10 million annually, €2 million lower than what United was offering the Spanish center back.
However Manchester United boss, Louis van Gaal, isn’t confident of United’s chances to retain their best player beyond this summer transfer window.
Despite being linked with a number of forwards this summer, Van Gaal looks set to stick with the trio of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson.
