Manchester United sign defender Matteo Darmian from Torino

The Italy defender signed a four-year contract with the Red Devils over the weekend after days of speculation linking him with a move to the Old Trafford club.

“From President Cairo to the youngest of the youth teams, all of Torino hopes Matteo has the best satisfaction for this extraordinary experience”.

Darmian made his Serie A debut as an AC Milan player at age 17 in 2006 and has since featured for Padova and Palermo. This is a feature that could prove vital in his success as a Manchester United player.

“I’m really excited”, Darmian told Sky Sport Italy.

“It’s a great opportunity”, he said.

Depay, who has already drawn comparisons with ex- United legend Cristiano Ronaldo, is clearly relishing the challenge despite the warnings of his new club manager.

Last summer’s arrival of Bruno Peres at the Stadio Olimpico dictated that Darmian would have to play on the left more often and rather than cause his development to stutter, this assisted it.

Darmian is expected to slot in on the right hand side as a right back which is his preferred position. But my first idea is to defend. He never played in the Champions League for Torino and was never likely to win Serie A in their colours.

“It is a big difference with the Dutch league”. It’s different here but I will try to make myself at home.
