Manchester United star was ‘unplayable’ against Rams, says team-mate
Veteran Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick returns to the team after four games out, which means that Van Gaal has options other than the frustrating Marouane Fellaini in the holding midfield position for the club’s FA Cup fixture against Derby County.
After a strong start to his Old Trafford career, Martial had suffered a mid-season dip in form, but his display in Friday’s 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round victory at Championship side Derby County recalled his better moments from earlier in the campaign.
The 20-year-old France striker terrorised the Rams ‘ defence to set up goals for Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata in the 3-1 win at the iPro Stadium.
“He can be a good player, but he must improve”, Fellaini was quoted as saying by goal.com on Sunday. He is quick, a good dribbler and always unsafe.
“Also they have to train and be adapted to the rhythm of the Premier League which is high”.
“He can do great crosses like we saw when he passed back to me for the goal and I really enjoy playing alongside him, because he’s a very good player”.
“But I think he has the quality to be a success”.
Fellaini added: “He has a lot of quality”.
“We created a lot of chances and that is good for the confidence”.
“We kept doing what we had to do: quick passing, trying to get forward, playing in the holes, and trying to turn and play forward, and I think we did quite well and that’s why we won”.
Fans should remain skeptical as we’ve seen United play attacking football, only to revert back to their boring ways once again.
United are now standing at the fifth spot and are 10 points behind surprise leader Leicester City in league table.
“But Derby showed so much more interest, so it was natural for me to go on trial there, and since then I have never looked back”.
