Speaking about Salman Khan’s hit and run case, Justice AR Joshi said that, Khan can not be convicted because the “prosecution has failed to prove the charges against Khan on all counts”.
In major reprieve for Salman Khan, the Bollywood superstar has been acquitted of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case for lack of incriminating evidence against him.
The much anticipated verdict Thursday was widely covered by major media outlets which showed Khan arriving in court for the hearing.
“It is shocking, but I will reserve my comment till I see the entire judgement copy, ” Gharat, who had secured a five-year jail sentence for the actor, said.
Khan is one of Bollywood’s biggest stars and has appeared in more than 80 Hindi films.
Consequently it st be said that this is not a case where the prosecution has successfully established its charges he observed adding that the entire evidence of the prosecution was circumstantial in nature.
Apart from the hit-and-run cases, India has glaring numbers of cases of roads accidents-and equally glaring numbers of them caused due to drunk driving.
“Unfortunately there are no witnesses to back his version”, the judge said about Patil, who died from tuberculosis in 2007.
It led to the death of one, while four others were injured. Khan immediately appealed and the sentence was suspended two days later, pending the outcome.

Desai later said, “This is a victory not just for Salman, but also us”.
The HC also slammed the testimonies of Salman’s deceased police bodyguard Ravindra Patil, calling him “a wholly unreliable witness” over the differences in his statements.
It’s been more than 13 years since the case of Salman Khan being accused of killing people on the streets has been in court expecting a verdict. He said that his driver Ashok Singh had been behind the wheel at the time.
The prosecution is likely to challenge the verdict, reports say.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the government will decide whether to appeal against the verdict after going through the order.
