Mangold finds inspiration in giving ‘Logan’ R-rated edge
The film is clearly a passion project of both Mangold’s and Jackman’s, who worked together on previous “X-Men” spin-off “The Wolverine” in 2013. There’s plenty of profanity, which in the right hands could serve to make the characters more realistic, more believable as people who get frustrated or threatened or angry and drop the occasional F-bomb. Bond isn’t in the cards – “I think Daniel (Craig) has got that one sewn up”, Jackman says – though Logan co-star Patrick Stewart reports that he has a potential theater gig for him: “I told him if he plays it, I will play a small supporting role”. With its fabulous screenplay and direction, you’ll feel an immediate connection with Logan’s misery and pain throughout the film.
When Uproxx brought this up, Mangold replied: “Yes, and that it gave me some freedom from the main X-Men saga by taking him into this circumscribed universe”.
Patrick Stewart has stated that Logan is his last movie as Charles Xavier, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. He also added that he honestly “never thought in a million years” that it would last when it began 17 years. In fact every single piece of information I’ve received until the time of this writing has indicated that Logan will be a classic. Given the handsome black and white photography Mangold has tweeted during and after shooting, and the movie’s more mournful, serious tone, we can certainly see it working in monochrome.
Hugh Jackman is a self-proclaimed Shah Rukh Khan fan, and it should not come as a surprise to anyone if the original Wolverine thinks King Khan can pull off the role of Marvel Comics superhero character.
One last ride… in the X-Hoverchair.
Asked about what he will miss the most as he leaves behind Wolverine, Jackman said: “He won’t leave me”.
The X-Men star made his West End debut in 1998 in Trevor Nunn’s revival of Oklahoma! and was nominated for an Olivier theatre award. “It was for me one of the most profound and heart-warming political decisions of the 20th century”, he said.
For the YA crowd, “Before I Fall” has been described as a mashup of “Groundhog Day” and “Mean Girls”. I don’t know about “Holy Grail”… Shortly after, fans promptly began to speculate as to whether or not Logan would find a way to stand out from the rest of the comic book movie crowd by being released in black and white. For example, Deadpool (also rated R) did well at the box office.
