Manning, Giants down Browns 27-13 for 6th straight win
Off to their best start since 2008, the New York Giants extended their winning streak to six games with a 27-13 victory over the winless Cleveland Browns.
Despite two touchdowns to Odell Beckham, Eli Manning and Giants offense struggle moving the chains. It was far from a ideal performance, but they will move on to Pittsburgh with a six-game winning streak in their pocket. “Those things matter. It matters for our offensive line to hear a quarterback’s voice and the command of his voice at the line of scrimmage when we play situational football”.
While these Giants continue to search for the ideal game, their personality earned to this point has been built on big plays and the mission of achieving bigger goals. Three plays later, they were out of business.
More than anything, Thomas said, players need to step away from the routines they’ve been following since training camp began in late July. The Giants finished with a season-high seven sacks.
The New York Giants can’t run.
Is it enough? They’ll find out over the final five weeks, as all of their upcoming opponents entered Sunday.500 or better.
Beckham had six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
The New York Giants have a middling passing attack. QB Eli Manning, LB Jonathan Casillas, and LS Zak DeOssie are season-long captains. He giveth and taketh away: Prior to Sunday, he had four games with three or more touchdown passes. McCown threw deep downfield and connected with Terrelle Pryor. Before another play could be run, guard Alvin Bailey, who was in the game only because John Greco was out with a foot injury, was called for a false start. Denver won a Super Bowl a year ago.
And the Giants have done just that, especially the defense. The Giants are now 7-3 on the season and 5-4-1 against the spread, going 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. “It was a hard-fought game against a good team, and if you throw out their record, that’s a good team out there”.
This was the Giants’ most lopsided win this season, but it was never easy as the Browns hung around for more than three quarters. You get the picture. Big Blue is now 8-3 as the NFC East tries to keep pace with the 10-1 Dallas Cowboys.
With the Giants (8-3) slogging through a game where they seemed to be playing down to Cleveland’s level, Pierre-Paul helped NY open a two-touchdown lead and avert disaster with his third career touchdown – maybe one that meant a little bit more to the defensive end. Nothing but good can come out of getting Beckham the ball, as his six catches for 69 yards and two scores on 11 targets (after shaking off a thumb injury) demonstrated. (Sense the theme.) Victories all.
A week ago, after the Browns’ loss to the Steelers, Jackson spoke extra long in the locker room. A gutsy, fourth-down gamble was the key play in a Monday night win over Cincinnati. McCown presents more of a problem for the Giants than Kessler would as he is not afraid to push the ball downfield. Now it’s second-and-19 at midfield, and the Giants are smelling blood. The process is overrated.
But, as is becoming custom, the defense bailed the offense out. The defense has rankings of 13th and 16th, respectively. However in the fourth quarter, the roles seemed to change a little. “Good things happen when the ball ends up in his hands”. A lot of ballgames come down to the very end, a handful of them are within a score.
