Manning, Giants down Browns for 6th straight win
The Browns scored a field goal with 1:43 left in the first half to cut the Giants lead to 7-3. However, the Browns once again could not establish any type of a running game on offense. “It was nothing but the end zone for me”, Pierre-Paul said after the game. NY collected its first seven wins by a combined 27 points, none by more than a touchdown. “I know that without question”. Well, there are two answers … So let’s put the 0-12 record in some context. Also, Giants defensive end Owa Odighizuwa left with an injured left knee in the second quarter.
Usually the first to address the media, Jackson followed quarterback Josh McCown at the podium.
In the end, the defense of the Giants prevailed, ironically after the Browns’ biggest play of the game.
Asked about the risk of injury returning punts, McAdoo said “I think every play that they’re out there on the field is a risk”. Robbie Gould, the replacement for Josh Brown, has missed three extra points the past two games.
The Giants secondary has consistently made plays too. New York’s offense was starting to come alive while Cleveland’s remained anemic. The offense puts a little emphasis on the scoring and the defense thinks they have to stop them. Thomas has played every snap of his National Football League career. When the ball is in Odell Beckham Jr.’s hands, he has the potential to score, no matter where he is on the field.
Since we’re being realistic, understand that Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints is the best of this year’s rookie crop.
When the Giants go no-huddle, they are risky. Kareem Jackson was flagged for unnecessary roughness for a helmet-to-helmet hit on the play, leaving San Diego at the 12-yard line.
Cleveland is off this week and next plays the Cincinnati Bengals on December 11. The veteran quarterback had less than 200 total yards passing, but he did connect for three touchdown passes and no interceptions.
The Giants went over 100 yards rushing for the third straight game, but neither Rashad Jennings (15 carries for 55 yards) or Paul Perkins (9 carries for 29 yards) were impressive on the ground.
It’s hard to believe, but a team that has been a gargantuan mess since 1999 is setting new marks for futility.
All jokes aside, Wing downed the Browns inside the 20-yard line five times on Sunday (a career-high).
With holes just about everywhere except on the defense, NY has had to sneak past teams in nearly all of its wins this year.
As has been the case most of this season, the Browns just didn’t have enough talent – or luck – to pull out a win.
Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul celebrates his interception and touchdown with defensive tackle Damon Harrison during the fourth quarter November 27 at FirstEnergy Stadium. “If you’re 8-3, it’s like, ‘Okay, that hurts us, but we’re still where we want to be.’ Right now, there’s a sense we need to get a win”. They do not act like a team on an impressive roll.
Despite their winless record, the Browns did manage to move the ball effectively at times but their penchant for untimely penalties and inability to protect the quarterback led to stalled drives and squandered points.
The identity of this 2016-17 team has been the defense, and will be for the remainder of the season. NY might not look like a good teamon paper this year, but the Giants have the same outlines as their championship-winning predecessors.
