Manning returns to practice, Osweiler still the starter
Back-up quarterback Brock Osweiler has so far proved an adequate replacement for Manning, going 3-1 in four starts, but the Broncos have not exactly been sizzling on offense, scoring an average of 19 and coming off a 15-12 loss to Oakland (6-7).
“It is a trying time for Peyton Manning, who has always been a starter his entire career”, Rapoport said.
Peyton Manning’s injury concerns began to pop up across our news feeds following the Broncos’ loss to the Indianapolis Colts back in early November, but he’s been dealing with his plantar fasciitis since well before then.
Wednesday will be his first practice with the team in a month.
“It was good to see him back, I know he was happy to be back, I know everybody was excited to see him back that is no discredit to Brock”, Emmanuel Sanders, wide receiver said.
Kubiak said he won’t rush Manning’s return and insists he may get his spot back.
“It was a little unusual to watch Peyton take those scout team reps today”, Osweiler said after Wednesday’s workout. Initially thought to be a sure win game for the Tom Brady team, the match up proved to be the opening needed for backup quarterback Brock Osweiler.
Manning resumed throwing last week on his own under the watchful eyes of the strength and conditioning staff. But he has yet to practice with the team since having his hard cast removed and ditching his walking boot two weeks ago.
It’ll be interesting to see what Denver does when Manning is ready to play. The most historic meeting between these two teams was on December 24, 1977, when the Broncos defeated the Steelers 34-21 for their first playoff win in franchise history.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Titans with an undisclosed illness.
“Every time we put the defense in a bad situation, I know I didn’t hear those guys saying anything negative on the way out”, Green said. But with a Super Bowl run potentially on the line, can the Broncos trust that a healthy Manning will be better than he was over the first nine games of the season?
There has to be some concern here about Manning’s foot.
I think it just might. The Denver Post reported that Broncos coach Gary Kubiak had actually not spoken to Osweiler and Manning until Tuesday afternoon, putting off the decision even more.
