Manning’s four touchdown passes power Giants over Dolphins
This ended up being a close game for most of the way, and was decided by just one score.
In contemporary nomenclature, New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. has been described as being a “sick” (awesome) athlete. The division now stands in a three-way tie for first between the Giants, the Washington Redskins, and the Philadelphia Eagles, all of whom hold 6-7 records upon the completion of week 14. I just want to finish this season out.
Regardless of Beckham’s respect and admiration for Newton, he doesn’t have to worry about Newton’s arm or legs.
Tannehill coolly marched the Dolphins to the Giants 38, then handed off to Miller, who proceeded to make the Giants look sillier than they’d looked all night, taking a step right, freezing Jason Pierre-Paul and Jonathan Casillas and then dashing left, past a diving Collins and straight upfield to give Miami a 14-10 edge. Their sputtering four-headed running game wasn’t as effective as it looked. The passing game wasn’t much of a weapon.
Having Beckham at his side affords Manning a unique luxury. The odds are against them, and the team’s many holes defensively were on display frequently against the undertalented Dolphins.
Eli Manning had one of the best games in his career.
And then he abused Jamar Taylor and Reshad Jones on the same play in the second half, burning them on blown coverage for an 84-yard touchdown catch and the winning points with a little more than 11 minutes left.
The Dolphins (5-8) were mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture.
It should have been an easy thing to figure out, right?
“Those are the ones you’ve got to make”, Tannehill said. In 23 games played, he had 1,015 yards receiving, averaged 13.1 yards a game and had nine touchdowns in two seasons.
Beckham had another excellent, with seven catches, 177 yards and two touchdowns. He left Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes, who at one time was very good, in the dust.
Whatever Odell had, all the other Giants should order it. In Week 12, a couple of fluky interceptions cost them, despite Manning converting 9 of 18 targets to Beckham for 142 yards and a TD.
Miami’s leading tackler had another strong game on Monday, finishing with a team-high 11 tackles and recovering a fumble for the Dolphins only takeaway of the night. That’s a team not built to last.
There was more of a commitment to establishing a running game, as Rashad Jennings had nine rushes for 42 yards in the first half. And waiting for Beckham Jr.is star corner Josh Norman. The festivities seemed to inspire the Dolphins, who started fast, but were eventually run down by Beckham. Besides, Coughlin and McAdoo’s jobs might depend on it – no extra pressure there. “Proud of the offensive line for putting body on body and giving the backs a chance to run”.
Curt Macysyn has been covering the New York Football Giants for the past four seasons for Examiner.com, and he is a member of the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA). That’s all the more reason to stay on the pedal and get in front of the shootouts with plenty of Manning to Beckham. But they have the best offense out of the three teams and some sort of aura thanks to Manning and two Super Bowls that came from nowhere. Coughlin made it clear he would not be enamored with the idea, but he also indicated that if Flowers is able to start a game, regardless of how his day might end, the Giants will give him that shot.
