Manolo Blahnik To Launch His First Bag Collection

They were the shoes that launched a thousand tributes, sell-out stock and border line obsession for many of us. Manolo Blahnik has launched his very first handbag collection, and they’re every bit as wonderful as you might expect.

The shoe master has taken his iconic satin shoes with shiny buckles to create a capsule collection of six clutch bags – all squared and egg-shaped. The ultimate party accessories, there’s no doubt these beauties are an investment buy with prices starting at £1320, but as the designer himself says, “Every woman needs a jewel. There is nothing more stunning than a feminine hand holding a gem-like object”. We couldn’t agree more. ” Maybe it was all a matter of timing-or maybe her patron saint of footwear, Manolo Blahnik, just hadn’t made the right bag yet”. The bejeweled range will be available end of July at Manolo Blahnik’s flagship store on Old Church Street in London, and at the 31 West 54th Street store in New York City.

“These bags are an extension of some of the shoe styles I really like as I wanted to keep the connection between the shoes and the bags”. The legendary Vogue editor has been seen wearing the same cross-front slingbacks from the 73-year-old footwear designer for over 20 years now – she’s said to own them in variety of colours. I like to make things beautifully and sometimes to get something right it takes time.

But don’t worry ladies, there may be more to come, well, sooner than you think: Blahnik is already planning another small collection for next season.
