Manuel Pellegrini: We have been very consistent so far
At Stamford Bridge, Mikel Obi watched from the substitute’s bench as Chelsea suffered a shock 2-1 defeat in the hands of Crystal Palace.
City have had the ideal start to the 2015-16 Premier League season, gaining maximum points in all their fixtures after a shaky pre-season.
Nevertheless, they put that lacklustre first-half display behind them and opened the scoring within two minutes of the restart when Sterling tapped home Sagna’s low cross.
Pellegrini, though, has cautioned against any dreams of title glory – pointing out that City had led Chelsea on goal difference in January of the last season.
“We are not thinking about what happened with Chelsea”.
“We are always a creative team”, he said. “And that’s why it was important to try and start the season trying to give another face, show another attitude”.
Striker Wilfried Bony will be out for Man City after sustaining a gash on his leg during training but will only miss one game, according to club manager Manuel Pellegrini.
“That’s what we are trying to do now and we finish on Tuesday when the transfer window is closed”.
Manchester City have clinched the signing of Belgian attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg.
Sterling was impressive from the start but City was unable to break through Watford’s defense in the first half.
The England winger’s goal against Watford was his first in a competitive game for his new club, and he will soon make people forget about his large price tag, according to Pellegrini.
Results have pleased Pellegrini but the manager has also praised his players for the way they have lifted their game again, having discussed last year’s shortcomings with them in summer.
He said: “I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season we can be happy and maybe have some titles”.
And of course Silva can now move centrally, where he can play in his most natural role and create chances at will for his team mates. He works a lot during the whole game.
Watford, who had arrived at Etihad Stadium on the back of three straight draws, looked well organised as they frustrated the home side before the break but carried little threat when they tried to fight back after falling behind.
Unfortunately, it did not live up to the billing as one of the better games this season as City clearly outclassed their opponents and scored three unanswered goals against Jose Mourinho’s men as City made their claim as the top team in the league.
