Many foreigners among Paris attack victims

At least three Belgians lost their lives, including a couple named by Belgian press as Milko Jozic, 47, an engineer, and his partner Elif Dogan, who lived near the Bataclan concert hall where most of the carnage took place.

The death toll from France’s worst-ever terrorist attack, which was carried out by three teams of Islamic State attackers in Paris on Friday night, has reached 129 people. And, over the weekend, news of his death inspired outpourings of emotion from numerous musicians and friends he toured with.

People from across the world were caught up in the atrocity with several foreigners identified as being among the dead.

Chicago-based rock band Smashing Pumpkins wrote on Twitter: “Our thoughts tonight are with the friends and family of Nick Alexander”. He had travelled to Paris as the merchandise seller for USA rock band Eagles of Death Metal.

His girlfriend, Polina Buckley, had desperately searched for news of him on Twitter, begging for information on his whereabouts.

“You are and always will be the love of my life, Nick Alexander #f***terrorism #ParisAttacks #Bataclan“, Polina captioned her tweet, a sweet, heartbreaking photo of her and Nick smiling and kissing on a busy street. They later said she was among the victims of the Bataclan attack.

“Then [Alexander] couldn’t breathe any more and I held him in my arms and told him I loved him”.

French footballer Lassana Diarra revealed on Twitter that he had lost his cousin, Asta Diakite, in one of the shootings.

Nohemi Gonzalez, 23, from Long Beach, California, was dining at a Paris restaurant when the gunmen opened fire. Lucian Grainge – the chairman of Universal Music Group, which owns Mercury Music – said the loss was “an unspeakably appalling tragedy”, in a Saturday note to employees provided to the Los Angeles Times. “Marie and Mathias both left us”.

The two other Chilean victims are Patricia San Martin (55) and her daughter Elsa Delplace.

The women were described as the niece and grandniece of Chile’s ambassador to Mexico, Ricardo Nunez.

Cedric Mauduit, a local councillor from Calvados in Normandy was confirmed among the victims of the Bataclan attack by his employers.

“I can give you an absolute assurance we are giving every assistance we can to the French authorities, and others in Europe, in ensuring we can bring those who played any part in this attack to justice”.

Ms Buckley, who described Nick Alexander as her “lover, best friend and soulmate”, was pictured in floods of tears and sobbing uncontrollably at the moving tribute, which was flanked by candles, scarves and placards declaring: “United we stand”.
