Manziel looks good beating San Francisco 49ers
The quarterback made the Browns’ offense more exciting and effective than it’s been all season. “There were some things schematically we thought we could take advantage of, especially in some of the spread run game….”
The Browns dominated the equally underperforming San Francisco 49ers this afternoon in front of an understandably sparse home crowd.
Cleveland only led 10-3 at the half, despite out-gaining the 49ers in yardage significantly.
THE CROW FLIES: Crowell had runs of 54 and 50 yards as the Browns, who came in with the NFL’s worst rushing attack, rolled up 230 yards their most since 2010. Coming into this game at 2-10, Cleveland had been putrid both offensively and defensively.
One of the people who is most certainly not happy about all the attention that Manziel gets in the media is Terry Bradshaw, and he was not shy about letting that known on Sunday.
Today, however, Cleveland not only figured out its typical woes, it did so with a vengeance. 49ers’ quarterback Blaine Gabbert was sacked a franchise tying record nine times. What it was that finally helped the team figure out how to pass rush is a mystery to me. I know better than that.
Sick of losing, sick of surrendering more points than it ever envisioned during this 2015 season, the Browns defense came into Sunday’s game focused on simply putting together a complete, 60-minute effort that’d been missing in the previous seven games.
Despite a number of off-field incidents this season, Manziel boasted a successful outing and finished 21 for 31 for 270 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Though he did throw a questionable interception, it was his only notable mistake on the day. I’m going to continue to play, continue to fight.
There were very few holes for Draughn to run through in the ground game, and the pass protection was nothing short of awful. The defense went with a Mr. Hyde performance, allowing Isaiah Crowell to surpass 100 rushing yards for the first time in his career, and Johnny Manziel saving his career a little longer. Crowell has now put together two solid games after gaining 62 yards on 11 carries last week against the Bengals, but he will face a tough test next week against Seattle.
Left tackle Joe Staley wasn’t alone in saying that the 49ers took the Browns lightly and paid for it with a 24-10 loss Sunday.
We’ll see how it ends!
The Browns ran the video again, along with a list of his accomplishments.
“If you watch all the plays, you’ll convince yourself he’s making strides”, this coach said, “but he’ll screw it all up off the field and with streetball plays like the pick against the 49ers”.
Dawson’s return Kicker Phil Dawson was good on his only field-goal attempt of the day from 44 yards, but the veteran kicker admitted afterward it was hard to keep his concentration.
