Manziel renamed the starter of the Browns
Manziel is expected to start the final four games of the season and will replace Austin Davis, who has filled in for the injured Josh McCown over the past two weeks.
Manziel last started in the Browns’ 30-9 loss in Pittsburgh in Week 10.
-PASS DEFENSE: B. Browns quarterback Austin Davis never found the end zone, but he managed to pass for 230 yards on Sunday, including 83 on eight receptions by receiver Brian Hartline. Four plays later, the Bengals resorted to Nugent’s 40-yard field goal and took a 20-0 lead with 3:20 left in the second quarter.
Everyone expected Geno Atkins, Michael Johnson and Carlos Dunlap to have good years, but what’s making this defensive line even better is the impact Domata Peko is making.
“The one thing, if you are going to be successful, your building has to be unified”. There was no turning point in this game as the Bengals dominated for the whole 60 minutes but this play set the pace for the rest of the game as the Bengals continued to score easily. More impressively, they now rank 11th in total yards allowed per game (337.5) after hovering in the 20s for much of the first two months of this season. We’ve got to be playing well around our quarterback. Those are all things that get factored into it, but we have to be very accurate in identifying what we are doing well and what we are not doing well. I thought he was poised.
“We’ve got a chance to write that script”, Lewis said.
The reports are that Johnny Manziel will be back in the saddle for the Browns this weekend, but confirmation from the team didn’t come on Monday. That is a possible overlooked reason why Manziel is starting. Some speculate this is due to a video of him partying on his bye week, and then lying to the team about it, but this is unconfirmed. The Bengals are 10-2 this season while the Browns are 2-10.
“We haven’t had those discussions, ” Pettine said, via the website.
Despite an National Football League investigation and his admitted drinking after spending 10 weeks in a rehabilitation facility during the offseason, the Browns kept Manziel active for recent games, and started him in two of those contests.
Green had five catches for 128 yards, picking up 57 on his first reception – a completion Dalton felt should have been an 84-yard TD. Davis was also sacked three times. Last week, Pettine said the Browns wanted to see Manziel play again this season.
Expect to see him show flashes of brilliance, but he has to figure out how to take care of the football before he can become a legitimate starting NFL quarterback.
“I’ve talked about before when he’s in the building that hasn’t been an issue”. In fact, forcing him to watch the Browns lose may have been exactly what they were hoping for. “Those guys work and prepare and help each other, so he was on point this week in his role”.
