Manziel violated Browns’ trust
Pettine said he had watched the video in which Manziel holds a large bottle while singing and dancing at a nightclub in Austin, Texas.
Here are two videos of Pettine’s press conferences and comments on Manziel, posted by the Cleveland Browns.
“We do have a much better sense than we did a year ago”, Pettine said. You don’t close doors on anything. You never say never. “It was right on the heels of discussions that not just I had with him but (quarterbacks coach) Kevin O’Connell and (offensive coordinator John DeFilippo) Flip and just that that trust was violated”.
One day after taking Manziels starting job from him for breaking his promise to stay out of the spotlight and behave during the bye week, Browns coach Mike Pettine explained his decision was necessary. Pettine refused to elaborate on November 27.
Pettine said it was “fixable” for Manziel, adding he could return as a starter next year.
“Obviously I’m disappointed – not just because I’m a broadcaster”, Gruden said. LINE: Browns -3. O/U: 41ABOUT THE RAVENS (3-7): Flacco has started every game since he was drafted by Baltimore in the first round in 2008, and his injury paves the way for backup Matt Schaub to make his first start since the 2013 regular-season finale with Houston. “I think Johnny has played enough football where we know what we have in him”. “We always say, to whom much is given, much is expected”.
DeFilippo used the early part of the bye last week to tailor a game plan for Manziel. Josh McCown is our starter. As other options surface for the Browns to look at, Manziel could be out of the running and headed elsewhere. “So when things like this happen – and not just him, but just in general – any team when you have incidents like that [where] a guy knows that he represents more than himself and has issues off the field, it is frustrating”. “We are in a situation where Josh has played a lot of football for us”.
Manziel was in the locker room on November 27 but avoided reporters by ducking into one entrance of the shower area and exiting from another. He said was ready to play Monday. WRs Taylor Gabriel and Andrew Hawkins will also miss Monday’s game with concussions…. “You lose trust in buckets and you regain it in drops”.
“I already addressed it”, Pettine said. Allen tuned up last week, playing after Forsett got hurt and gained 67 yards rushing and caught five passes for 48 yards. They combined to account for 11 receptions and 124 yards against the Ravens in Week 5, making a number of pivotal catches during the Browns’ rally from an 11-point deficit.
“It’s pretty cool”, said guard Joel Bitonio. LG Joel Bitonio returned to practice after injuring his ankle on November 5 at Cincinnati and sitting out against Pittsburgh the following week.
“We’re trying to test it out and kind of see where it’s at”, Bitonio said.
