Marc Wilmots: Vincent Kompany could play in Belgium qualifier
Eden Hazard, Vincent Kompany and Marouane Fellaini were among the Premier League stars to be put through their paces by coach Marc Wilmots on Monday.
After it lost 1-2 to Cyprus at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem on Saturday night, the Israelinational team’s only chance to finish in third place and qualify for the playoffs is to win over group’s leader Belgium while hope that Bosnia-Herzegovina doesn’t beat Cyprus on Tuesday. “I think it will be good for Man City if Kompany gets a few match time”, added Wilmots.
“I’ve not been in contact with Man City myself, but the club are kept up to date with developments”, said Wilmots. Vincent has to prove he’s okay to play, then I have a choice to make.
Pellegrini has acknowledged that he is powerless to stop Belgium from picking Kompany to play, but after the injuries picked up by Sergio Aguero and David Silva on worldwide duty, the Chilean is sure to be angered by Wilmots” decision to “risk’ the 29-year-old.
“I can not ask him (Kompany) not to travel”, Pellegrini said on October 2.
“He’s been working with the rest of the squad since Friday, and that’s good for Manchester City and good for Belgium”.
Belgium playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who could also feature against Israel, is hoping to improve on his recent performances despite scoring five goals in his last six games. Germany’s score in the next ranking, which is released on November 5, will be 1388 as they have already played their two games. Klopp may however be looking to assess the fitness of all his players come Wednesday, which should be the first time he has all his fit players together for training.
Aleksandar Kolarov is a doubt for the weekend encounter with Bournemouth after suffering a knock before being sent off during Serbia’s defeat against Portugal on Sunday.
