Marco Amelia: Chelsea sign former AC Milan goalkeeper
Chelsea, meanwhile, announced on Thursday that former Italy and AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia had joined them on a free transfer.
His agent confirmed the deal in a post on Instagram, writing: “Dinner with #marcoamelia (Amelia) to celebrate the contract with Chelsea FC!!!”
Amelia was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup squad and last represented his country in 2009.
Mourinho was keen to sign another experienced goalkeeper and in Amelia has his man, with the custodian also having spells with Livorno, Palermo and Genoa to his name.
However, the goalkeeper only made 24 starts in Serie A for Milan in his four years at the club, per WhoScored.com, often finding himself on the bench.
The Blues were rumored to be interested in Manchester United keeper Victor Valdes but the club would have had to wait until the January transfer window to bring in the Spain worldwide.
The 33-year-old custodian will don the number 32 jersey for Chelsea and will be available for their Premier League game against Aston Villa on 17th October, 2015 when the league resumes after the worldwide break.
It is thought Courtois won’t return for at least another six weeks but he is making good progress.
