Marco Rubio Calls Donald Trump’s Criticism of His Finances ‘Ironic’
Of the 484 charges, eight of them were personal totaling $7,243.74.
United States lawmakers from the Republican Party are concluding that Jeb Bush is unlikely to win the party’s nomination for president and that Senator Marco Rubio has the highest chance of winning in the general election.
The Rubio campaign said the statements did go to his home for the first two years and then for the next two years they were sent to Republican Party headquarters. “We are releasing them now because Marco has nothing to hide”.
Rubio has long said he would occasionally pull out his party American Express card to pay for personal items by mistake. Rubio also relied on the party card of his political adviser, Richard Corcoran, to pay for many of his political expenses. “Having known him and seen him in action and having seen the pattern of behavior of his, the sense of entitlement – the explaining things away without taking any kind of actual accountability or responsibility for what he’s done, blaming others – and there’s always an excuse”. “He is a disaster with his credit cards”, the businessman and television personality told a press conference.
Rubio’s top adviser, Todd Harris, told the Tampa Bay Times the campaign will release detailed expenditures soon, but didn’t cite specifics. It’s not inconceivable that 4 percent represents the number of out-of-touch George W. Bush fanatics within the Republican Party who believe he is still president and think they are registering their support for his re-election campaign when they hear the telephone pollster utter the name Bush.
His use of an American Express card is part of a litany of financial problems – from a bank moving to foreclose on a house he co-owned in Tallahassee to questionable accounting of political funds – that have dogged Rubio during his political career.
The Rubio campaign released previously undisclosed billing records Saturday for 2005 and a portion of 2006. “These statements are greater than 10 years of time of time old”. Despite the fact that his battle raising support endeavors have lingered behind hopefuls like Texas Senator Ted Cruz and previous Florida Governor Jeb Bush, he’s been economical with his spending and has more money close by than a large number of his rivals.
The statements also show that Rubio charged Delta Airlines flights for his wife Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio.
The next month, Rubio charged $723.60 on United Airlines for his wife to fly from Miami to Denver to Aspen.
Rubio was soley responsible for determining whether charges were related to party business. The Republican party of Florida covered $3,343.58 for the trip.
But in their letter, the two watchdog groups allege that the Conservative Solutions Project’s activities amounts to an illegal “private benefit” for Rubio under United States tax law, for the goal of “defeating the donor disclosure requirements of federal tax law”. This was paid to American Express on November 15, 2005. His campaign insists Rubio has reimbursed American Express for the purchases.
