Marco Rubio Credit Card Statements Show He Made $22000 In Personal Charges
Rubio has said the attacks are nothing new and were used unsuccessfully against him in his 2010 Senate campaign.
Rubio told Beck the Republican Party needs to “reclaim” the belief that most government solutions, “if they exist”, are at the state and local levels. The expenses originally surfaced during his 2010 Senate race following investigations by the Miami Herald and Tampa Bay Times.
During last month’s heavily criticized CNBC debate, moderator Becky Quick asked Rubio if his dubious bookkeeping skills – intermingling campaign money with personal money, facing foreclosure on a second home, and liquidating a $68,000 retirement fund – suggest he lacks the requisite maturity and wisdom to lead the U.S.’s $17 trillion economy.
Donald Trump, for instance, said Wednesday that Rubio “has a disaster on his finances, on his credit cards”. It was granted to him by the state Republican Party to pay for recruiting candidates, raising campaign donations and other expenses related to his political work.
There was no criminal investigation into the actions. But a review of the 18 American Express statements obtained by CNN from 2007 and 2008 showed all but one were mailed to the state party headquarters in Tallahassee, not Rubio’s Miami home.
“The Conservative Solutions Project is flaunting the tax laws and flaunting the interests of the American people by using its improper claim of nonprofit tax status to keep secret the donors financing its campaign activities”, Democracy 21 president Fred Wertheimer said in a statement. They also said Rubio paid American Express more than $16,000 to cover nonparty expenses when they happened.
The new release includes a trip to Las Vegas, where the campaign said Rubio funded an extension of a business trip to visit family, as well as an instance where he has said he “pulled the wrong card from my wallet to pay for pavers”.
Bottled water can be purchased in bulk at Costco, which is one of the places that Marco Rubio allegedly used the Florida GOP credit card. In fact, all American Express corporate cards in the USA are charge cards, which is a type of credit card that requires the bill to be paid in full every month.
Rubio’s use of the card for a few personal expenses has opened the door to criticism.
Other questionable charges ranged from $25.76 at Everglades Lumber for “supplies”, and $765 at Apple’s online store for “computer supplies”.
“You can’t take that guy for his word”, Ingram said of Rubio. The total amount he charged during that duration was just more than $182,000, within which he racked up 73 personal expenses on the card that his team has said he reimbursed fully.
On Saturday, the campaign released statements covering the 22-month period from January 2005 to October 2006. But while Rubio’s critics love to whisper about a smoking gun, it’s important to remember that right now, we’re dealing with insinuations, not specific accusations.
