Marcus Mariota may be out for season
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (12) celebrates with wide receiver Keshawn Martin (82) after throwing a touchdown pass to running back James White in the first half of an NFL football game against the Tennessee Titans, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, in Foxborough, Mass.
With Mariota out, the Titans (3-11) likely will sign Mike Kafka off the practice squad after signing the quarterback last week.
After the game, the rookie felt it wasn’t worth risking an injury.
NOTES: Receiver Danny Amendola (knee) left the first half of the win over Tennessee and did not return.
Mariota completed 3 of 6 passes for 32 yards. Mariota’s speed has been a factor, as he has added 252 yards on the ground, including an electrifying 87-yard score in Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mettenberger completed 20-of-28 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the game. And we, you know, just dealing with some guys went in today, some guys went out.
Mariota said after the game that his knee got twisted up underneath him on the sack. Two of his passes were intercepted. “I wanted to get out there and play with the guys, but Zach is more than capable of taking over the team”. Safety Devin McCourty (ankle) missed his first game of the season after missing two days of practice last week….
-QB Marcus Mariota (knee) will miss this week’s game after suffering a sprained MCL in his right knee.
Their roster continues to be a revolving door because of injuries, but the New England Patriots are squarely in the driver’s seat in their quest to have the top seed in the AFC.
The Patriots will finish the regular season with road games against the New York Jets next week and the Miami Dolphins the following week.
“I think he’s had a great year, doing some of the things he did as a rookie”, tight end Delanie Walker said. That touchdown run on the screen, from what I saw there just wasn’t much there.
Cornerback Malcolm Butler had one of his best games of the season, making one interception and having another one negated by a holding penalty on cornerback Leonard Johnson.
Amendola’s injury was reminiscent of the one he suffered out in Denver against the Broncos, with the veteran leaving Sunday’s contest following a 22-yard punt return.
Mariota injured his knee during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Patriots when he was sacked by linebacker Jamie Collins on a third down play.
